CSN Student Unions
About This Project
The context surrounding the CSN Student Union at the Henderson campus is that of a suburban neighborhood. The landscape elements incorporated into the design theme serve as a function of the environmental conditions present on the campus daily, and seasonally. These include mitigation of sun and shade areas, reflectivity of the surfaces of the surrounding buildings, providing wind protection, and creating an overall aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally responsible, landscape areas for a variety of uses. The design intent of the plant palette was to use desert adaptive plant material throughout the site. LAGE Design coordinated with the CSN facilities staff to ensure all plant material was approved and appropriate for the campus and blended with the adjacent existing landscape. Special attention was be given to underground and above ground utility locations, sun orientation, soils, and site grading of the site. Water efficient irrigation was used for all plant material installed on the project to provide a sub-surface irrigation system. Irrigation zone areas were created at the site based on the zone’s orientation and plant palette.
