1-15 North: Phase 2
About This Project
The I-15 North Phase 2 project included approximately 4 miles of freeway widening from Craig Road to Speedway Boulevard with corridor landscape and aesthetic improvements. This stretch of Interstate 15 features unique vistas – southbound travelers are greeted with a built environment highlighted by the vibrant Las Vegas skyline while northbound travelers experience dramatic natural views of the desert and distant mountains. The design solution – “Angle of Repose” – reinforces these two opposite environments. The southbound views feature structured, architectural elements that reinforce the built environment while northbound views utilize free-flowing, natural shapes that visually connect with the surrounding natural environment. The design also incorporates 16 pieces of artwork that were donated to the state by a prominent southwestern artist. These sculptures were carefully sited along the project corridor to maximize their visibility and enhance the experience of the traveling public.
